By Kyle Fengler, co-owner of Loaves & Fishes:
My stepfather and his family grew up in Breezand in the Netherlands.
Breezand is right in the center of a lot of tulip farming and tulip growing - that's what my stepfather's father did when he was growing up. It is such a beautiful town to go to and see the tulip fields there.
The tulip fields just stretch on endlessly in every color and style you can possibly imagine. It's a really beautiful village. You'd want to come during the spring - that would probably be the best time to go when the tulips are in bloom.
I eat with family a lot when I'm there, so I don't go out to restaurants as much. Holland is a real melting pot of different cuisines - they've taken on a lot internationally in their cuisine style.
There's a lot less of what you would call traditional Dutch cuisine because of that international influence.
Having family roots in the heart of Holland's tulip farming region adds another layer to Kyle's background. It's not just about visiting tourist destinations - it's about understanding the agricultural heritage that shaped his stepfather's family and continues to define this beautiful corner of the Netherlands.
