A luxury rug dealer in Punta del Este, Uruguay, told us where to find it: at the bottom of the local square, through a small entrance you'll miss if you're not looking. The boutique of Paula Martini.
Paula started her eponymous brand in José Ignacio in 1999 -- back when it was still a sleepy fishing village, before it became the South American summer hotspot it is now.
Her husband is Martín Pittaluga, the owner of La Huella, arguably Uruguay's top restaurant. The whole family knows what they're doing.
The line is filled with timeless South American sweaters, blouses, skirts and essentials, all locally tailored and romantic without the needless flourishes.
When we visited, the boutique (which has another location in Buenos Aires) was flooded with stylish shoppers.
Word is spreading... not just from a luxury rug dealer.
