La Noria, in Vejer, Spain, will not disappoint. The owner-baker who took over from his father is an up and coming young chef, friends with the Michelin-mentioned chef of El Muro, and also supplies the bread at restaurant El Muro.
I so happily lived on pan con tomate and cortado's for breakfast while in Spain. But once in a while during my morning run, I would get lured by the bustling morning bakery scene and permeating scents of freshly baked goods. Straight from the oven were these loaves made of ancient and local grains, so many types to gleefully chose from, as well as doughnuts and pastries offering all different types of fresh creams, custards and fruit fillings that made it impossible to select only one!
Sit with the locals in this bustling cafeteria setting for the typical breakfast of half a toasted baguette and what I can only describe as tomato seed spread with a cup of short coffee and a touch of steamed milk. Or pack up some loaves and pastries to take away and enjoy mid-afternoon.
