You are on a business trip and the CEO of your Latin America operations choses to take you to one restaurant in town, you know it's going to be great. And that restaurant for me was Contramar.
White table cloth service by men in black bow ties oozes an aura of understated glam, yet the environment is relaxed and leisurely.
You must order the grilled whole snapper, their signature dish, served in the colours of the Mexican flag. There is a double-entendre here though, the red side is coated in the traditional dried chile paste, while the green side is painted in a garlic-parsley dressing that is purely Italian: Chef-Owner Gabriela Cámara’s twin heritage on a plate.
I guarantee you will adore this restaurant. Be amongst the local artists, businessmen, and a few, just a few, tourists that have found their way here. Order the fish, and also the signature tuna tostadas. And get flight after flight of the bandera, tequila with two chasers, a light tomato juice and a lime juice, that I learned of at another excellent restaurant nearby.
