From Rory, Kidd Squid Brewing Co, Sag Harbor, NY:
Full Moon at the Beach
Here's a local secret: every full moon, head to the ocean to watch the moonrise. When it's a clear night, the full moon rises right as the sun sets β and watching it come up over the water is pure magic, no matter the season.
My favorite spot is on Sagg Main Beach, which is a straight shot from the village.
Park all the way to the right (west end of the lot). Walk about 5 minutes down the beach and find a natural "cut" where the bay flows into the ocean β it's like a natural water park for kids, or just beautiful to explore if you're solo.
The cut opens and closes naturally (sometimes from storms, sometimes it's managed), but when it's open, the tidal flow creates something special.
Fall is prime time β think harvest moon rising over the Atlantic.
Winter can be cloudier, but when you catch a clear night, it's unforgettable.
Other beaches with cuts: Scott Cameron Beach, Atlantic Avenue Beach and Flying Point Beach also have natural cuts worth exploring.
