From Irene, Onda Marketing & PR:
I like La Casa del Tigre for dinner — though it’s open for lunch, it really comes alive at night. You can sit at the bar or grab a table, but either way the space is very cool.
The food is traditional Andalusian but with a gourmet, edgy twist — some cultural mixing, but always using local ingredients. It’s in what used to be the home of a very rich man, and apparently he had a tiger that would show up on the balcony. Who has a tiger in their house?
Their version of tortilla de camarones (listed as tortilla abierta on the menu) is great. The tiny baby shrimp — what I call camarones — are mixed with egg, and it’s delicious.
It’s trendy and not very big, so you’ll need a reservation. Keep an eye out for the tiger logo — it’s a nod to the house’s wild past.
According to Diario de Sevilla, the 1898 building was constructed on the site of an old inn said to have once hosted Saint Teresa of Ávila.
The new structure became the residence of former Seville military governor Pedro Parias González.
In another colorful chapter of its history, the 1970s saw José María Lassaleta — then director of the Jerez de la Frontera Zoo — living there... with his pet tiger. 🐅
