From James McMahon, of Bridgehampton’s Salty Sessions:
If you're in Europe and want to surf the Mediterranean, I'd say Forte dei Marmi is probably one of the best places you can go. It’s basically the Hamptons of Northern Tuscany — with a big, beautiful beach.
My friend owns The Pier Surf School there. If you want to head to the beach and have surf lessons, that’s the guy, and that’s the place.
You wouldn’t necessarily think of Italy as having surf, but they get little waves — similar to what we have here in the Hamptons in summer. A little smaller, a little more gutless, but they’re still waves.
It’s perfect for learning. His Instagram is full of kids riding small waves, getting their start. It’s exactly what you'd want for an introduction to surfing in the Med.
The owner’s name is Davide. He’s a great guy, knows the area, knows the breaks. It’s the kind of spot where local knowledge really matters, and he has it dialed in.

For over a decade, Salty Sessions has held the only license for Ocean Road's breaks in Bridgehampton.
Founder James McMahon staffs the school with lifeguard-certified pro surfers who speak three languages and teach students from ages 3 to 75+.
Small group lessons, sunrise privates, and summer camps draw families from across the East End.
The reason is simple: safe, fun instruction that adapts to every student's needs.
