Long Island wines get a bad rap. People see it on a list and assume it’s second-rate. And sure, there are some forgettable bottles out there, but there are also some of the most exciting winemakers and producers working today with some incredible varieties.
Take, for instance, Cabernet Franc – it thrives on Long Island. It sings here. But not enough people are enjoying it. I want to tell these stories, and get people to try these wines.
Most of the serious wineries on the North and South Forks grow Cab Franc because the climate suits it so well.
There is Wölffer Estate, Bedell Cellars, winemaker John Leo’s wines, and Paumanok Vineyards (who joined us for a Chef’s Dinner).
Then there’s Channing Daughters. They don’t necessarily focus on Cab Franc, but they’re always trying to go for really cool and unique styles. A bit of Brooklyn type energy - they love their orange wines.
Meeting these winemakers -- seeing their craft, feeling their passion, and experiencing their wines -- changes everything.
That’s why a Long Island Cab Franc Tasting at Sen may be coming soon. Create an account with Wonder Shuffle so you don't miss an event.
In the meanwhile, we are pouring Wölffer's Cab Franc at Sen.
