From Claudja, of Lazypoint:
Marianna Rothen is a photographer from upstate New York, who produces strong images of women - sometimes haunting, sometimes quiet, all entrancing.
One picture we carry at Lazypoint โ of four figures gathered around a picnic table โ comes from her series Witness and Wanderer.
Untitled #6, Women Of Canterbury, 2011
Until recently, Rothen photographed only women. But her new work features men โ or at least, what seem like men. Theyโre mannequins, posed so precisely they feel human. Itโs eerie in the most beautiful way. You think youโre seeing something familiar, and then realize: thatโs not a person.
Garden of Eden, 2018
Along with Marianna's photos, we carry two of her books here โ Mail Order, which was turned into a short film in 2019, and Shadows of Paradise. Carl McCormick, the art critic, wrote an essay for that book.
