I just got back from Key West. My two favorite places there: Santiago's for excellent tapas and then Green Parrot for some fun live music and a great vibe.
Santiago's is just small, quaint, and the food keeps coming out one perfect dish after another. I order the croquettes, the short ribs and the bacon-wrapped dates. And their tuna avocado ceviche is the best.
I definitely eat way too much when I visit. And the sangria is pretty good too. It completes the experience.
Green Parrot is the spot for fun live music. The afternoon crowd is very local, but worth a visit as the bar offers soundcheck in the afternoons where bands play a quasi-set that attracts people throughout the day.
For the full effect, drop by in the evening. The Green Parrot's open-air design has no doors and no cover charge - you just float in and out as you please. Free popcorn is a signature feature.
I also love Hank's Dog Bar. That’s what I call it. It's a bar where all the profits go to take care of abandoned dogs. They've got an awesome food truck out front, and live music in the back with some pretty good bands. My friend owns it, but I would still recommend it even if I wasn't friendly with them. It's just a lot of fun with a great cause behind it.
