From David Loewenberg, The Beacon and The Bell & Anchor:
I’m a big fan of Lee and Riad – of Frenchette and Le Rock. When they reopened Le Veau d’Or, I felt like one of the cool kids when I got in.
I’ve been there twice recently, and both times were really special.
The Midtown bistro is from 1937. My grandmother used to live in the neighborhood, and she took me there when I was a kid. I remember having frog’s legs for the first time.
Lee and Riad brought the place back with — how do I even say it — really smart sensibilities. They’ve classically restored the menu, and it’s done so well, so thoughtfully, that you’re just in awe. The place looks like it always has—but maybe even better. Derek, the grandson of the original owner, is at the door. The bar program is incredible. And the duck and offal are fabulous.
They have a serious wine program featuring natural wines. You can trust that they will steer you in the right direction.
Let the team guide you — frog’s legs, wine, whatever they say. You’re in good hands.
