From Sagaponack Farm Distillery:

In the Beginning

Before our farm had corn for bourbon or rye and barley for Empire Rye, we had potatoes. So we started there.

The Single Spud Collection was our first attempt at a barrel-aged spirit – three different potato vodkas, each aged like a whiskey. They’re made with red, white, and blue potatoes (yes, really), and each one brings something totally different to the glass.

They read like whiskey, but because they’re made from potatoes – not grain – we had to come up with our own name. Hence: Single Spud.

Single Spud Red - Made from Adirondack red potatoes, earthy and slightly sweet. A classic take on the method used in the Sudbusters, using all NY state products, and we’ve been doing so ever since. Product info: 90 proof | 375 ml | $37

Single Spud White – Made from buttery Peter Wilcox potatoes, this version is drier with caramel notes. We love it in a whiskey sour. Product info: 90 proof | 375 ml | $37

Single Spud Blue – Made from All Blue potatoes, this has spice and mineral notes. It goes well with just a big cube of ice. Product info: 93 proof | 375 ml | $37

The white potato is crisp and clean. The blue potato comes out creamier. And the Adirondack red, with red skin and white flesh, is fruity – like cherry, strawberry, even a little sherry-like.

Same treatment, same barrels, totally different outcomes. That’s the fun of it.
