When you're in Sag Harbor, most people are going to point you to Sen. But here's what they won't tell you about this 30-year sushi spot.
It's not some corporate restaurant group situation. It's run by brothers Jesse and Tora, whose parents started the whole thing. Their dad was a sumo wrestler (no joke), which explains why sumo matches are always playing near the bar. Those awesome sumo paintings on the walls? Their mom did those.
The menu is massive - like 100+ dishes massive - but don't let that fool you. The brothers really care about what goes into the food and what they pour. They're building a community, with local farms, local fishmongers, local breweries and vineyards.
What's cool is how different the vibe can be depending on where you plant yourself. Out front on Main Street is prime people-watching. The Zen Garden is where locals hide out. And the back bar is where the real action happens.
Recently, they had this pop-up with Dassai Sake and this Hudson Valley Duck that wasn't even on the menu. Jesse might casually pour you something you've never heard of if you show any interest in sake. Just like sushi, roll with it.
