From contributor Elena Alonso:
If you’re in Coral Gables, walk to the Cerudo Arte gallery (see card below) and then go for lunch at the Michelin Bib Gourmand recipient, Tinta y Cafe, which means ink and coffee. The name is a nod to dark and bitter Cuban coffee, which is usually taken with lots of sugar.
Even though Tinta y Cafe is small, they serve the best Cuban sandwiches in the Miami area. Hands down, the best. They also have croquetas which are amazing and roast pork that’s so authentic.
Tinta y Cafe also serves another popular sandwich, the Elena Ruz, named after the Cuban socialite from the 20s. Here the Elena Ruz is renamed La Francesita (pictured above) and consists of turkey, cream cheese and guava preserve, or just ask to keep the strawberry jam preserve. You can also opt to switch it up with ham. It all may sound odd, but it’s so delicious. No matter your sandwich choice, enjoy it with a side of tostones and a beer (or a Malta, a non-alcoholic malted barley beer).
Tinta y Cafe may mean ink and coffee, but this crowd-pleaser is all about the food.”
