About Salty Sessions

We’re a dedicated surf school and camp in the heart of Bridgehampton and Sagaponack, known for creating safe, fun, and skill-building experiences for every student.

Lessons

We offer private lessons starting as young as age three and going up to 75 and beyond.

Both individual and group options are available. Most private lessons run one hour, with flexible, hourly pricing if you'd like more time.

Our Camp

We run camp Monday through Friday in two sessions: 9 to 12 and 12 to 3. It’s perfect for kids ages five to sixteen, with flexible half-day or full-day options.

Our camp season officially kicks off the third week of June and runs straight through Labor Day.

We offer private lessons earlier in June (but keep in mind the water is pretty cold in those first two weeks) and continue all the way through the end of September for anyone wanting to extend their surf season.

Personalization

We keep sign-up flexible — single sessions are fine with 24 hours’ notice to make sure the right instructors are scheduled.

Our team includes 12 to 15 instructors at full capacity, handling up to 25 kids. While big groups can be arranged, we keep typical lessons intentionally small — one to three people — to make the experience personal.

A One & Only

We hold the exclusive license for lessons on Ocean Road, a fully permitted and insured beach. No other schools can operate on this stretch. All our instructors are certified lifeguards, making every lesson not just permitted but professional and safe.

Local Credibility

Word of mouth drives most of our business, with a tight-knit Hamptons community of families sharing recommendations.

We’re a go-to for locals living and vacationing in Bridgehampton, Sagaponack, Sag Harbor, Southampton, and East Hampton.

Our Vision

Founded by James McMahon over a decade ago, we built Salty Sessions on deep local experience.

Before launching our own program,

James ran other top surf schools at Flying Point, Ross School and Main Beach Surf — seeing firsthand how many lacked genuine passion and expertise.

Our vision? A school led by true ocean watermen, not teenage summer hires. We employ adult, lifeguard-trained pro surfers who are fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, and English, creating intimate, professional, and globally connected lessons.
