From James McMahon, of Bridgehamptonโs Salty Sessions:
Most of what weโre blessed with out here is the naturalness of it. I love taking people out to Montauk and showing them around the lighthouse. There are a bunch of trails that run along the coves out there.
You can park at the lighthouse with a daily pass. Once you're there, you can head off in different directions depending on what you're looking for. It can be a whole day trip or a half day. Usually we'll walk the trail to a little secret beach area, hang out for a while, chill, then head back or even hit another one.
Always bring your own stuff. Pack a picnic, drinks โ make it a hang. It depends on the season, too. Some times of year can be ticky if youโre brushing up against everything (so wear protective clothing).
You wonโt typically see seals on those trails right now, but in winter for sure you can spot them out in Montauk. All the beaches see more seals as it gets colder. And right here in Sag Harbor, youโll see them. Dolphins and whales too โ we see them daily at our ocean beach in Bridgehampton.
