From Cristen Motty, co-creator of the Off Hampton Film Festival and co-owner of Hampton Photo Arts & Framing:
Nobody knows that the guy who invented The Addams Family was a Sagaponack local.
Isn't that the coolest? Charles Addams happens to be one of my favorite artists ever, and I actually get goosebumps when I think he lived in the Hamptons.
Addams passed in 1988, but the Tee & Charles Addams Foundation keeps his spirit alive on the East End.
If you want to learn about Addams, start with his coffee table book The World of Charles Addams. I own about four of his books, and this oneβs the best place to begin a collection. It pulls in his New Yorker cartoons, the early roots of The Addams Family, and a full range from his first sketches to later work.
A while back, the Addams Foundation opened Addamsβ Sagaponack home for tours. Itβs worth reaching out β you might just land a rare walk-through.
Neat.
Sweet.
