Our Top Ten Martini + Burger Spots

Wonder Shuffle attended a holiday party near Union Square this week, and afterwards walked to Pete’s Tavern, continuously-run since the American Civil War.

We ambled past O. Henry’s booth (where the author wrote the Christmas-themed “Gift of the Maji” in 1905), and found ourselves seated at a cozy table with white table cloth in back.

Our server Edward was grey-haired and bespectacled, and spoke with a gentle, gravelly twang - think Burgess Meredith’s voice in the old Puff the Magic Dragon animated TV special.

He would return with an enlightening martini and a charred-to-perfection burger. A nice December evening in a historic bar was now made even brighter.

As an early gift to you, we’ve compiled our top ten spots to relax with a burger and a martini in New York.
