Ever walked into a shop and stayed longer just because of what was playing? At Barryville General, that's by design. The soundtrack isn't background noise - it's part of the brand, as carefully curated as the products on the shelves.

Barryville General and Pachute have been building the main playlist for our shops for years now – thousands of songs that have become the soundtrack to our brands.

We also have a secondary playlist called BG Workshop which is more Latin influenced and R&B – a little more funk and soul, smoother.

Make the Cut?

How does a song make the cut at one of our shops?

Does one of us feel passionately enough about it – the same as with a product, a shirt, or a bread.

Is the song enough to tell the two other partners, Hey, I love that. That's usually enough. It's the taste that's the thread… between us and the brand.

Current Rotation

At the moment, I'm very into Cameron Winter – he just released his first album. He's the lead singer of Geese. I happen to know them and have done some work with Cameron over the years. I think he's a genius – very happy to hear his solo stuff – it's deep.

We're also spending time with Van Halen's first three albums, New Edition's first album, mid-career INXS, Small Faces, Barry Manilow, Little River Band and pre-We Built This City Starship.

The Visual Soundtrack

Here at the Goods Shop, we could screen old episodes of Midnight Special, Odd Couple season four, and White Shadow season two.

While over at our Market, it could be something like the movie Breaking Away. Most people don't notice them, but that's okay – it's fun when someone does.

Like everything at BG, the atmosphere is carefully considered. It creates an environment where you want to look around, discover, and connect.
