The best time I spend in Montauk? It’s on Lazybones. A family-run fishing charter, it’s been taking locals and visitors out on the water for generations. The captain’s daughter is part of the crew now, keeping the family business alive.
The setup is simple—two half-day trips daily, and I’ve done both:
Early Bird: 6 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Afternoon Run: 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.
It’s an amazing experience, perfect for groups of three to five, but I think the boat can hold up to 40. They break down your fish right on board, so you can leave with a ready-to-cook (or eat) catch.
Here’s how you do it right: Bring ponzu from Sen. When you land a fresh fluke, ask them to slice it up on board and dip it right into that citrusy soy sauce. It’s as fresh as sushi gets – literally still pulsating in your mouth.
It doesn’t get better than this. An absolute must-try.
