If you don’t know about Mattituck Mushrooms, well… you don’t know.
There’s this little turnoff on the North Fork – hard to describe, easy to miss – and tucked in there is Agathe Snow’s place, part farm, part studio, part something else entirely.
She grows everything herself. Incredible mushrooms, all kinds, and she also makes tinctures and distillations – delicate, thoughtful, potent.
She’s an artist too, and we just did an event with her earlier this year. The art on our walls was hers, and the mushrooms she brought were unforgettable.
Agathe is busy, and finding her isn’t always straightforward. She does farmer’s markets, mostly. Sometimes she lets people visit her home farm if she’s there – but it’s hit or miss. That’s part of her charm.
We have Mattituck Mushrooms at our farmstand, so if you are on the South Fork, come to Marilee's Farmstand on Sagg Main Road.
And if you ever spot Mattituck Mushrooms at a market – stop. Ask about her tinctures, pick up something you’ve never heard of, and let her surprise you. And if you ever get invited to an event she’s involved in – go.
