The Session

Artists and professors Jackie Hoving (Pratt) and Norm Paris (RISD) lead a communal drawing salon in The Church's Main Gallery on Sunday, November 16, from 3 to 4:30 PM.

Bring a sketchbook and pencils, grab a seat, and draw the people around you, the space, or whatever catches your eye.

It's a meditative practice in observing and being present.

This isn't a class — it's a casual, open session for all skill levels.

Tables and chairs are provided, or find your own spot for a solo drawing journey.

The Inspiration

Jackie and Norm met as students at Yale Norfolk Summer School of Art, where they participated in Sam Messer's "drawing happenings" — communal sessions built on bringing people together through drawing.

They've brought that spirit to The Church as part of the fall exhibition "Here & There: The Church's First Churchennial." The recurring program honors The Church's commitment to fostering creativity on the East End.
