Tap dance artist Naomi Funaki presents an in-process showing of her new evening-length work, Ikigai.
The piece draws from the 2011 Tohoku earthquake, tsunami, and Fukushima disaster -- blending rhythm, live music, and personal memory into something about resilience and connection.
Funaki is a 2023 Princess Grace Award recipient and one of Dance Magazine's "25 to Watch." This showing follows a weeklong residency at Guild Hall.
Part performance, part conversation -- an inside look at a piece still taking shape before its March 8 premiere at Guggenheim New York as part of the Uptown Rhythm Dance Festival.
