Since I've been living out here, there's this sushi restaurant on the side of the highway in Southampton called Show Win now. It's been two or three different places, always all sushi. I feel like that's some of the best sushi out here, if not the best.
It's very reasonable, very well-priced. It's never really, really busy. It's not the prettiest restaurant, it's not in the most beautiful area. But if you just want really great sushi and you don't want to feel like you got robbed afterwards, it's a great place to go.
I know the owner really well. He's Japanese, and we've had conversations about sourcing. He's got like 10 different fish guys because he only trusts this guy with that fish and this guy with that fish. He wants this fish from that place. That attention to sourcing is what makes the difference.
I'm a very simple man - I always get the same things. I get the spicy kani salad, which is so funny for me because I don't know why I'm eating imitation crab meat, but I really enjoy it. Then I do a spicy scallop roll, but everywhere I go, they put cucumber or crunch. I don't want either of those things - I just want the spicy scallops and the rice.
I always get some sashimi because I'm simple - tuna, salmon, and squid. A couple pieces of ikura sushi, salmon roe, because I can't get out of a place without having some salmon roe in my life.
If you want to go simpler, just get a chirashi bowl. You get like five different kinds of sashimi in one nice big bowl, and I think it's like 30 bucks. You're not getting that anywhere out here for that price.
I had great fried ice cream there last night - green tea flavor. I hadn't had that in a long time.
