While tinned fish service is now hip, this tradition has deep roots. You'll find tapas bars in Portugal where they simply open tins before you — something that's been happening around the world for generations.
Our chef at Armin & Judy grew up in San Francisco, and experienced this culinary tradition long before it became fashionable.
When some might dismiss it as just a can of fish, we know better. The products we source from Spain, Portugal, and Italy are from producers that are extremely selective about their catch, the oils they use, and complementary ingredients like chilies or citrus.
The result is truly unique.
Our selections offer clean, distinct flavors that are never fishy. A surprise for those who have only experienced mass-market versions.
This is where we truly understand the term breaking bread. In Italy or France, bread is rarely sliced — it's presented in a basket for tearing.
Tear off a piece of our baguette, top it with tinned fish, soak up the remnant olive oil, and enjoy with a bottle of Sancerre or other crisp wine. It's an unforgettable experience.
We're particularly fond of La Brujula products for their superior quality. Their scallops are fabulous. For those who enjoy a bit of heat, we recommend Matiz’s spicy sardines with piri piri pepper — just enough edge without overwhelming heat.
Another perfect combination for your basket could be: Gutarra white beans, a glass jar of center-cut tuna, a baguette, a bottle of our olive oil from the Adriatic coast, and a bottle of wine.
Take it home or enjoy at our picnic tables with our goats.
