Wine Folly is amazing. If you want to learn wine — really learn it — this is the book.
Teaching wine is the hardest part of the job. But this helps. It’s visual, it’s smart, it’s not dumbed down. I buy a copy for everyone. It’s our textbook.
I pair it with daily tests. I’ve got my own notebook too — a grape glossary. But this book lays it out: by varietal, by region, or both. The maps are great — California, Italy and France. You’ve got Greece, Hungary, South Africa, all in there, too. Even label-reading tips. You learn to read a bottle and know what it means — dark, inky, tannic, all of it.
Forget Wine for Dummies — this is the one. There’s knowledge in this book that’s great for anyone building a list or trying to understand what they’re serving. And if you're not learning something every day in this job, you’re doing it wrong.
