A Pandemic Spark, A Western Soul

Mont Kiji’s newest collaboration with American artist Kesia Finley is absolutely stunning.

Her story begins at a tiny kitchen island in Manhattan, where Kesia — furloughed from her corporate job at the height of the pandemic — found herself submerged in grief after the sudden loss of her father. In search of solace, she ordered pencils and paper.

What emerged were memories, muscle memory, and the haunting, healing power of drawing.

Her hand returned to the skills she once used to doodle through math class. Her mind drifted to the mountains, deserts, and horses that shaped her. She missed the creatures and the mysteries of the West — and slowly, they began to appear in her work.

Today, her mediums include graphite, pastel, charcoal, and colored pencil. Her art carries the quiet weight of personal history, layered with mystery, wildness, and grace.

Mont Kiji’s collaboration with Kesia is debuting in NYC this June at RE:ALABAYAN in Tribeca and Flowing Space Gallery on the LES.

Junhee Kim is the Paris-based founder and designer behind Mont Kiji, a silk scarf brand with a 100% Made-in-France ethos. Before launching her brand, she worked at Balenciaga, Emmanuel Ungaro, Sonia Rykiel, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Marc by Marc Jacobs.

Mont Kiji scarves are produced with traditional silk artisans in Lyon and small ateliers in Paris, supported by a nonprofit collective Junhee co-founded to uplift independent designers.

Her boutique is in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, where she continues to connect with customers through artful objects, expat spirit, and meaningful design.
