Hope in a Box

It started with my dad. We had a box called Hope. All of us would write three things — wishes, resolutions, whatever you call them — and put them inside. On December 31st, we’d open the box and read them out loud together.

Now I do my own version. I divide it into sections: health, vanity, travel, spiritual. I write it, I keep it where I can see it, and I check in throughout the year. Some things carry over. Some things just disappear — they become unimportant.

The Italian Spark

One year, I wrote: learn Italian. I’d never properly studied it. That resolution led to an internship in Como, at a company that specialized in silk. From there, everything began to connect — Filippo, Bianca, the first scarf. That’s how Mont Kiji started. More of that story is in the card below.

Inside Tip 🪄

The health section this year is small things — taking short walks, doing 30 seconds of squats and jumping jacks in the changing room after lunch. The curtain works in my favor. I can see out. They can’t see in.

Junhee Kim is the Paris-based founder and designer behind Mont Kiji, a silk scarf brand with a 100% Made-in-France ethos. Before launching her brand, she worked at Balenciaga, Emmanuel Ungaro, Sonia Rykiel, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Marc by Marc Jacobs.

Mont Kiji scarves are produced with traditional silk artisans in Lyon and small ateliers in Paris, supported by a nonprofit collective Junhee co-founded to uplift independent designers.

Her boutique is in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, where she continues to connect with customers through artful objects, expat spirit, and meaningful design.
