I ordered a Manhattan from the cocktail menu at the Sagaponack Farm Distillery and was recommended to get it with rye instead of bourbon. I’m the type who orders everything just as the chef—or in this case, the bartender—recommends. No special requests, no adjustments.
The Manhattan was amazing. Not overly sweet, beautifully balanced, and finished with a perfect maraschino cherry on top.
The beauty of sipping cocktails in a Tasting Room is that you can actually learn about what goes in the cocktail. I learned there was barely anything added to the Empire Rye from the distillery. The subtle hint of cocoa and vanilla, and the sweetness in the cocktail, all came from the natural malting process—no extras needed to sweeten it up.
