By Kyle Fengler, co-owner of Loaves & Fishes:
Our menu at Loaves and Fishes food store changes every single week. Whether you're stopping in for a quick lunch bite on your way to the beach, breakfast, or ordering catering for 100-200 people, we have you covered.
We feature quite a range of culinary influences - you can find German, French, Lebanese, and Polish dishes, among many others. We always emphasize freshness and ingredient quality, working closely with local farms to incorporate what's seasonally available.
The quickly rotating menu gives us flexibility to showcase ingredients with short growing windows, like when ramps are in season.
While our weekly menu is constantly evolving, we do maintain certain staples that customers can always count on.
We make chicken schnitzel every week - speaking of our German influences.
Our lobster salad, ziti salad, and fresh broccoli salad are also permanent fixtures. Deviled eggs appear every week, along with our pastries and cakes. These include German chocolate cake, pavlova, coconut cake, lemon pound cake, and carrot cake.
No matter when you visit, these signature items will be available.
If you're stopping by on a Saturday morning to grab provisions for the beach, we have the perfect selection.
We usually recommend a few of our schmorbrot, open-faced sandwiches in a Danish style, perhaps try the salmon and cucumber, or pickled herring with apple slaw and a touch of horseradish.
Add some lobster salad or shrimp salad for brightness, and a vegetable option like our roasted beets and carrots.
For beverages, we offer a selection of local wines from Paumanok, beers from Kidd Squid in Sag Harbor, and cider from Wölffer Estate. While we don't carry spirits or distillates, our curated selection of local alcoholic beverages complements our food perfectly for a day by the ocean.
While we're primarily food-focused, you can also find household essentials and pantry staples - olive oil, eggs, milk, juice, salt, and other kitchen necessities.
About 90% of our time and effort is dedicated to food preparation, with the remainder focused on curating a selection of products we stand behind.
We work with local businesses and source quality items that complement home cooking.
The store has been a Hamptons institution since my grandmother purchased the business from Susan Costner and Devin Fredericks in 1979 - making this our 46th year of operation.
