America's Pastime, Hamptons Style

Another really fun thing we do in the summer is attend games of a local collegiate league that plays out here.

There's a Sag Harbor team called the Whalers, and they play at Mashashimuet Park all summer. The season starts mid-June and goes until the end of July.

I have two baseball players in my house - my husband loves baseball and so does my son - so we actually host one of the players at our house.

They're all college kids from different schools around the country who come out for the summer to play baseball.

Local Competition, Family Fun

The Whalers have about four games a week at Mash Park, playing against other Hamptons summer collegiate teams from Southampton, Shelter Island, and further up Long Island.

During the week, games usually start around five, with weekend games sometimes featuring double headers during the day.

There's a little concession stand that all the local kids run - they wear aprons and cook hot dogs for the players and spectators.

The players are wonderful with the children, always signing autographs after games. Many local families host players, which creates a real sense of community around the team.
