NEW YORK, NY, November 27, 2025 -- Manhattan woke up to giant balloons on Thursday morning as the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade returned for its 99th year.
The procession started at 8:30 AM with thousands of volunteers steering balloons down the route, followed by floats, marching bands, clown troupes, and eventually Santa Claus - the traditional signal that the holiday season has officially begun.
Four balloon characters made their debut: Buzz Lightyear, PAC-MAN, Mario, and Shrek's Onion Carriage.
New floats came from the likes of Netflix, LEGO, and Lindt - while Broadway performers sang, bands marched, the Rockettes danced, and musical acts like Ciara, Jewel, Lil Jon, and Shaggy kept the energy high.
The parade started in 1924 and paused for three years during WWII.
It's been a Thanksgiving morning fixture ever since.
Contributor Jeff Day was there to photograph the parade.
