Welcome to Kinsale

Kinsale sits just south of Cork City, perched on the water with a deep harbor that still supports a working fishing fleet. Grainne’s mom lives there most of the year, so we end up spending a lot of time in town. It’s walkable, full of character, and has that layered feel — fishing village, military stronghold, and now a food destination.

Base yourself in town if you can. Everything’s reachable on foot, and the views are tough to beat.

As for us, we usually stay at the Kipper House when it’s available. It’s an old herring smokehouse in Grainne’s family, right in town. It’s under renovation now — Grainne’s cousin is doing the work — so we’ve been staying up the hill for now, closer to her mom’s place. The view from up there looks right out over the harbor, with James Fort and Charles Fort in the distance.
